Director, Facility Development, selects, leads, manages, and mentors a team of engineers whose responsibilities include but are not limited to formulating and communicating data center environmental specifications, power and cooling delivery requirements and design, in-building and campus interconnection requirements and design, network equipment interconnection requirements and design. GIN leases colocation space from data center providers consequently the candidate must be familiar working with and communicating plans to external vendors. The Director focuses on mid-term planning and works with both internal and external parties to develop and implement evolving state of the art facilities design and architecture plans supporting the maintenance and growth of the business.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • Recruit, select, lead, manage, and mentor a global team of facility development engineers.
  • Work with internal and external parties to ensure the facility development team has appropriate tools and resources to efficiently perform the highest quality work.
  • Develop and maintain procedures and standards for GIN facility work on a global basis.
  • Maintain positive relationships with colocation providers.
  • Play a key role in establishing and documenting global network standards and policies related to physical installation architecture, port interconnections design, HVAC design and delivery, and redundancy.
  • Responsible to ensure technical and operational training is available where applicable.
  • Key player in determining the POP infrastructure CAPEX for the annual budget.
  • Direct and oversee global facilities monitoring, upgrade recommendations and planning.
  • Perform mid-term planning and projections for the global network with a time horizon approaching five years.
  • Interlink with cross-departmental teams that plan and carry out a variety of network projects including, but not limited to deploying, relocating, upgrading, and recovering network hardware, managing, and updating network topology, and managing network capacity.
  • Participate in project, planning and management meeting calls as a resource to provide facility and network equipment deployment requirements for facility space and power.
  • Document global network equipment and facility requirements and recommendations used for planning, site builds and equipment deployment.
  • Interfaces with senior leadership internal to the broader NTT group organization, as well as with various vendors.
  • Ensure there is coordination with cross-departmental teams that plan and carry out a variety of projects involving both facility and network transitions.
  • Work with facility and equipment vendors providing projections, establishing lead times, and assisting with commercial negotiations, contracts, long-term planning, and equipment/facilities evaluations.
  • Attend and participate in vendor meetings and calls, providing technical guidance on detailed facility build requirements and floor layout.
  • Responsible for conducting and completing both staff evaluations and timely establishment of individual staff performance goals.
  • Provide performance counseling/coaching as necessary.
  • Applies performance standards and addresses problems/issues in a timely fashion.
  • Responsible for ensuring that your staff participates and successfully completes all companywide mandates/training in a timely manner.

  • This is a remote position and candidates can be located anywhere in the United States. However, candidates will need to have the bility to travel domestic or international up to 15 percent of the time as required to support interactions with vendors and internal organizations.
  • Ability to work outside of the standard US business hours.
  • Performs a myriad of tasks as required and/or assigned.

Education/Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Business Management, or equivalent experience in related field preferred.
  • Advanced degree beneficial.

Work Experience Required

  • Fifteen (15) years’ experience in a data center operation and design or similar role with a Tier 1 Internet backbone business.
  • Ten (10) years of progressive management experience.
  • Five (5) years project management experience within an IP network environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of physical attributes for Juniper, Cisco, and Nokia platforms
  • Significant experience managing annual budget development and addressing mid-year budget adjustments as required.
  • Proven track record developing high-performing and self-empowered work teams and individuals with opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Skills and Core Competencies

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, able to communicate information clearly and concisely at multiple levels.
  • Highly effective executive management presentation skills.
  • Ability to see and prioritize business objectives beyond the team’s direct responsibilities and drive holistic outcomes for the GIN Division.
  • Ability to prioritize work tasks/deliverables and implement effectively.
  • Excellent technical aptitude in relationship to telecommunication, Internet, and Facility requirements.
  • Expert ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently and adapt to changing priorities while maintaining the required attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible, outgoing, positive, and to exercise independent judgment when making decisions.
  • Ability to work with deadlines, and under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong Computer skills, including MS Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Teams, SharePoint, Email (Outlook), etc.
