World Animal Protection is looking for a G20 Engagement & Advocacy Consultant based in Indonesia, to map key decision-makers and other relevant stakeholders in Indonesia relevant to World Animal Protection’s campaigns; monitor developments relating to the G20 (G20 Presidency and Secretariat, working groups, summits etc) and other influential platforms in Indonesia (i.e. ASEAN); conduct outreach to and lobbying of key decision-makers and other relevant stakeholders; and to build the profile of World Animal Protection in Indonesia
The G20 is an important platform for collective action in dealing with common global challenges such as the climate emergency, pandemics & global economic recovery. The impacts of COVID-19 on the members of the G20 has been huge and wide-ranging – causing long-lasting effects on economies, health and society.
Who are we?
World Animal Protection is the global voice for animal welfare, with more than 70 years’ experience campaigning for a world where animals live free from cruelty and suffering.
We have offices in 12 countries and work across 47 countries. We collaborate with local communities, the private sector, civil society and governments to change animals’ lives for the better.
Our goal is to change the way the world works to end animal cruelty and suffering for both wild and farmed animals. Through our global food system strategy, we will end factory farming and create a humane and sustainable food system, that puts animals first. By transforming the broken systems that fuel exploitation and commodification, we will give wild animals the right to a wild life. Our work to protect animals will play a vital role in solving the climate emergency, the public health crisis and the devastation of natural habitats.
What will you be doing?
Conduct an analysis of the G20 and its current priorities under the Indonesian Presidency and identify strategic entry points for World Animal Protection‘s campaigns and coherence with other mechanisms, such as the UNFCCC on the Paris Climate Agreement
In close coordination with World Animal Protection’s External Affairs contact point, review ongoing efforts as part of the global agenda, and provide recommendations on outreach and intelligence on (likely) government and key stakeholder positions
Identify priority decision-makers to approach in relation to our campaign, with a recommended outreach strategy – including how to manage potential opposition
Identify opportunities to raise the profile of our campaign (including legislative opportunities for a moratorium on factory farming and related asks)
Conduct written, virtual and (where possible/safe) in-person outreach to and lobbying of agreed priority decision-makers
Participate in at least a fortnightly call with World Animal Protection External Affairs contact point
Who are we looking for?
Strong experience of working with the national government of Indonesia

Good knowledge of national legislative processes
Proven track-record in working confidently and constructively with a range of in-house teams
Strong experience of designing & implementing advocacy strategies
