Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)

Main purpose of job:

Assist the Embassy in understanding terrorism and extremism developments in Indonesia and in implementing its response.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

  • Report on and analyse terrorism and extremist developments, including terrorist attacks, terrorist threat and changes in Government counter-terrorism (CT) and countering violent extremism (CVE) institutions, policy and law
  • Maintain a network of CT and CVE contacts in Government, civil society, religious organisations, other Embassies, media and academia
  • Attend and write up CT and CVE meetings
  • Support CT and CVE related visits, including briefing and logistics
  • Help design and implement CT and CVE programmes
  • Contribute to wider Embassy activities, including responding to crises
  • Help cover team absences, both on CT and wider foreign policy issues
  • Support Second Secretary Political and Security whose role covers CT, CVE and covering foreign policy issues in Head of Section’s absence

Learning and development opportunities (and any specific training courses to be completed):

  • On-line CT/CVE and developmental learning and training.
  • Training courses (when COVID situation allows)
  • Mentoring and work shadowing in Embassy

Working patterns: 39.5 working hours a week from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm Monday to Thursday and 7:30 am to 1:00 pm on Fridays. Requests for flexible working will be considered.

  • Fluent in both spoken and written Bahasa Indonesia
  • Fluent in both spoken and written English
  • Graduate
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Competent in IT and social media
  • Numerate

The job-holder will be required to take some specific training courses related to their role. All new staff undertake a workplace induction and there are a number of mandatory e-learning courses covering areas such as diversity, health and safety, and information management.

Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary may have their salaries reduced by the equivalent local income tax amount.
