Job Overview and Responsibilities
Support key account manager and Solvay personnel to ensure achievement of the commercial and technical objectives of the Solvay Mineral Processing Chemicals business
Conduct laboratory and plant evaluation of new and existing Solvay reagents.
Manage Technical projects to qualify Solvay products for new applications.
Keep abreast of new technologies, within Solvay and the industry as whole.
Support key account and Solvay personnel to ensure Solvay remains as preferred supplier of flotation reagents to PT Freeport Indonesia.
Identify and develop sustainable relationships at all levels & functions of Solvay & customer organization to advance business objectives
Environment, Safety and Health
To demonstrate personal responsibility and initiative in the areas of safety and environmental performance and to provide relevant guidance and information to other personnel as required.
Promote personal safety and environmental accountability and awareness in day to day work.
Participate in client company’s safety programs including Master observation logging, integrated safety inspections, safety meetings and NOSA audits.
Accountable for own housekeeping within mine metallurgical laboratories and processing plants and promoting this function as a priority to all personnel.
Have an awareness of the requirements of the Mines Inspection Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and any other relevant legislation.
Ensure that safety is the paramount consideration in all decisions, particularly with plant trials and modifications.
Ensure that environmental impact is considered in all decisions, particularly with plant trials and modifications.
Technical
To provide technical support to mines with respect to testing and commissioning of reagents and overall flotation plant optimization.
Design and implement test work with the knowledge of proprietary Solvay products.
Utilise Solvay-based statistical tools in conjunction with Solvay methodologies in designing experiments to formulate customised and proprietary reagents.
Conduct laboratory and plant testing to support both current business and the development of new business in the geographic area of responsibility.
Utilise project management techniques to manage laboratory and plant test programs.
Provide technical advice and support to existing and potential customers to ensure the most appropriate reagents are evaluated to solve customer needs.
Utilise statistical tools in the assessment and interpretation of test work results.
Keep abreast of ongoing research, both internal and external, of the latest chemistry developments to ensure optimisation of the flotation process for customers.
Develop a sound knowledge and expertise in the application of current Solvay reagents and of new products and technologies coming from both research and field developments to ensure optimisation for customers.
Provide timely and detailed reports of laboratory and plant test programs to customers.
Human Resources
To be an effective member of a team committed to the achievement of individual, team and company objectives.
Provide technical input into the development and maintenance of standards and procedures to ensure consistency in the way all Solvay engineers conduct test work.
Actively participate in, and support the Solvay performance management systems.
Assist in identifying training needs to build the skills necessary to achieve desired competencies.
To proactively build and maintain effective internal and external relationships that will assist in meeting the commercial objectives of the Mineral Processing Chemicals business.
Knowledge Transfer
Provide guidance and training to more junior staff in aspects of Mineral Processing these include:
Regent development for customers
Laboratory evaluation and techniques
Statistical training
Business Relationships
Where appropriate, contribute to the Solvay Customer Relationship Management systems for the purpose of knowledge and ideas transfer.
Participate and/or contribute to the presentation of Solvay as a world class organization.
Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with key personnel onsite
Business Improvement
To actively contribute to a continuous improvement culture to enhance the Solvay business plan.
Contribute innovative ideas to improve work practices and technology.
Devote time to researching advances in relevant technology that could be applied by Solvay.
Gather market intelligence relating to potential opportunities and threats, market trends, competitive information and relay this via internal communication systems.
Enhance skills and knowledge by attending and participating in appropriate training courses, conferences and seminars.
Develop and extend good relations to all customers, consultants and university and research personnel involved in areas of common interest.
Education and Experience
1 - 5 years of experience in Mining, Mineral Processing
1 - 5 years’ work experience as Metallurgist in a mineral processing environment with flotation and laboratory flotation programs (required).
Skills
Know and understand base and precious metals processes (required).
Able to complete designed laboratory flotation programs and run plant trials independently and interpret the results (required).
Competent in the area of report writing and data analysis (required).
Able to work autonomously.
High standard of communication skills.
Good English skills both spoken and written.
Self-motivated
Be able to identify problems and potential opportunities and work through to a solution in a timely manner.
Proactively identify areas of optimization in customers’ process and define effective, overall solutions (chemistry, equipment, operations).
Promote quality awareness across the company.
