Hatch is seeking a qualified Senior Environmental Specialist to lead and grow its environmental services offering in the Asia Pacific area, based in Jakarta, Indonesia. The Senior Environmental Specialist will provide input into the Asia-Pacific Environmental Service Group business growth plan and will implement the plan across the Hatch Business Unit sectors of mining and metals, energy, and infrastructure. This position will work under the general direction of the AUA Regional Environmental Lead with additional support from Hatch’s Australian and global offices, including local in-country support from Hatch’s Engineering team in Jakarta.


This position will be focused on identifying business development opportunities in our Asian region, expanding our skill sets in the region, and the execution of these engagements.
This position will provide project management, regulatory and technical expertise for engineering and environmental projects across the Project life cycle, from front-end design engineering, through pre-feasibility and detailed engineering, into construction, operations and decommissioning for projects in Indonesia and other ASEAN jurisdictions.


Knowledge and Skills:


  • Natural resource (e.g., mining) and heavy industry sector experience in a broad spectrum of activities including environmental constraints mapping, environmental design, regulatory strategic plans and schedules, project scoping, trade-off and options analyses, input into PFS/FS documents, technical due diligence reviews, preparing impact assessment regulatory submissions, permit applications, and Environmental Management and Monitoring Plans.
  • Experience and knowledge working with clients to meet international environmental and social frameworks such as IFC Performance Standards, ADB Safeguards, or World Bank General and Sector-Specific Environmental, Health and Safety Guidelines, including the development of Equator Principle Action Plans and Monitoring Reports
  • Direct experience working with private sector companies, major international development organizations, multilateral banks and other international institutions
  • Knowledge of environmental and social due diligence processes in relation to IFC and EP4 requirements, as well as country specific frameworks.
  • Good interpersonal skills as lead environmental consultant liaising with contractors, clients, local Authorities and other project stakeholders, including Indigenous Groups
  • Demonstrated success building and expanding client base, with a focus in the Asia-Pacific region
  • Experience leading and growing a local and regional environmental team, including career development planning, staff performance reviews etc


Qualifications


  • Excellent English language skills (spoken and written) with at least one regional Asian language
  • Master's Degree in Environment or related engineering/science discipline
  • In-depth knowledge of at least two technical disciplines (e.g., environmental quality (air, water discharges), terrestrial, freshwater or marine biology, socioeconomics, heritage, human health, land use).
  • A technical/engineering background is a plus
  • Minimum 15 years of experience working with and leading environmental scopes for EPCM, PPP, Owner’s Engineer, Due diligence or Design-Build contracts
