The opportunity

The Asia Valuation Shared Services Center (VSSC) is a centralized team with team members located across Asia Division servicing Asia BUs. The VSSC is responsible for providing timely and accurate liability modeling services and analytics to the Asia Business Units. These services include the execution, assembly, and initial analysis of all IFRS and local reserves, sensitivities, and capital calculations, as well as the maintenance of associated valuation models and procedures.


Responsibilities

  • Develop, validate, and implement model changes, (such as basis changes, new products, and other model enhancements) into our production models following VSSC Model Change Management guidelines, ensuring models are up to accepted modeling principles.
  • Monitor and manage the successful execution of our quarterly controls such as reserve movement analysis, audit logs, inclusion controls, upstream report validation for the Source of Earnings, New Business Embedded Value and Canadian/Local capital reporting.
  • Support business units with various annual and ad-hoc projects such as Basis Changes, regulatory requirements/changes, and annual audit requirements.
  • Effectively communicate the status and results of the changes to the Country Lead and local Business Units.
  • Identify and implement solutions to improve the VSSC tools, processes, and general framework.
  • Support Asia Country Lead in actuarial model and report review. Provide advice on modeling approach and insights on the efficiency.
  • Provide training to junior staff on modeling skills, coaching and review their deliverables
  • Provide ad-hoc modeling support to the team as resource pools if needed


How will you create impact?
Reporting to the Head of VSSC, the incumbent will be responsible for supporting the Head of VSSC and Asia Country Lead directing the activities of actuarial staff within the VSSC. The incumbent who possesses good modeling knowledge will be able to assist the Asia Country Lead in translating the reporting requirements into modeling as the modeling advisor within VSSC. This also involves providing insights to the Country Lead in setting up models efficiently.

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or Statistics
  • 2+ years of actuarial experience in the life insurance industry. Experience in modelling and valuation would be an asset. Understanding of regulations and familiarity in the manner of operations of the business unit is a big plus.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills, with experience in applying actuarial concepts to independently model and analyze actuarial financial metrics. Experience with AXIS modeling would be an asset
  • Ability to clearly communicate ideas, concepts, and results to various stakeholders.
  • Ability to meet tough deadlines and clearly set own priorities.
  • Ability to work in an evolving and dynamic environment and resilient to pressure.
  • Self-motivated with strong interpersonal skills and has demonstrated team collaboration.
