BBC World Service is an international multimedia broadcaster, part of BBC News, delivering a wide range of language and regional services and working increasingly with other parts of BBC News to serve global audiences. It uses multiple platforms to reach its weekly audience of 320 million globally, including TV, digital platforms including social media, AM, FM, shortwave, digital satellite and cable channels.
The BBC Indonesian Service is one of the most successful online services in Global News Languages. It has a multiplatform website, interactive, video and audio content. The service’s output aims to serve Indonesian-speaking audience in Indonesia, Southeast Asia and the world.
We are looking for two creative and highly skilled journalists to join our innovative team.
Main ResponsibilitiesAs a journalist in our Jakarta bureau, you will report, produce, revision and broadcast radio, online and digital video and TV content for an Indonesian speaking audience both inside Indonesia and elsewhere.
You will contribute and generate ideas for originating and commissioning stories and will work with other members of the wider team to identify and produce creative news and general interest content. You will also work on breaking and developing stories as they happen.
Other duties include re-versioning English BBC material for our Indonesian speaking audience and working with graphic designers to produce graphics sequences.
Are you the right candidate?The successful candidate will be fluent in Indonesian (written and spoken), with an excellent command of English and a demonstrable background in a relevant journalistic role. Knowledge of online, digital and radio journalism is important. You will also have experience in video and/or TV production, editing and storytelling. An understanding of global and regional news in the target area is essential. You will have a flair for creative writing and will be able to bring new and interesting angles to stories for BBC Indonesia.
