LESTARI CAPITAL - POSITION DESCRIPTION

REGIONAL PROJECT MANAGER - KALIMANTAN
Location: A provincial capital of a province of Kalimantan, Indonesia

Contract period: Fulltime, 1 year with potential for extension

initiatives that protect and rehabilitate important natural landscapes around the world. The Indonesian
word "Lestari" means sustainable, or everlasting, signifying our commitment to developing long-term
sources of finance for high quality conservation and restoration initiatives.

Lestari Capital’s impact model addresses a critical need for long-term operating capital for Projects run by
local communities, conservation non-profits and environmental services companies. Lestari Capital aims to
strengthen Southeast Asia’s emerging ecosystem services marketplace, by connecting demand for on-the-
ground conservation efforts among commodity producers/buyers with Projects that are protecting or
restoring forests where these companies operate, to protect at-risk areas. Lestari Capital is supported by a
diverse group of public-private partnerships and brings actors from the commodities and finance sectors
together with conservation initiatives and funders.

POSITION OVERVIEW
As a key member of the Conservation Outcomes Team, the Regional Kalimantan Manager provides business
development skills in the service of growing the Lestari Capital Climate Project Portfolio, particularly in the
Kalimantan region. The position will involve in identification of potential project partners and assist in due
diligence process to determine whether they meet the long-term vision of Lestari Capital. Projects
identified for implementation will be developed and validated under the Climate, Community, Biodiversity
Standard (CCBS) and other high quality internationally recognized standards.

The Kalimantan Regional Manager will be primarily responsible for will be responsible to ensure
effectiveness and efficiency of the day-to-day project’s’ implementation. The manager will be responsible

to oversight the project implementation in collaboration with project operators/implementing partners in
order to achieve sustainable impact of the conservation project. She/he will report to Head of Ecosystem
Outcome.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Serve as key member of Ecosystem Outcome

  • Involve in managing a number of consultants and service providers for project technical
assistance in Kalimantan Provinces
  • Participate in discussions related to Project design, linking Projects with potential clients,
due diligence needs, communications;
  • Participate in discussions related to developing innovative approaches to delivering
conservation outcomes to multiple potential client types
  • Contribute to all Conservation Project Procedures, including but not limited to Project
Onboarding Procedures (eg: Project Due Diligence Procedures; Financial Feasibility;
Environment and Social Action Plan goals; Key Performance Indicators; Project Activity Budget
Templates
  • Serve as a representative of Lestari Capital within wider conservation community in Kalimantan
such as to attend and present at conferences, workshops, and other events as a Lestari Capital
representative

2. Project Implementation Oversight
• Provide technical assistance and guidance to project operators/implementing partners to

achieve agreed key performance indicators.
  • Responsible for fundamental project implementation management including the

implementation of project monitoring and risk assessment

3. Identify Conservation Project Opportunities
• Support development of feasible project profiles to assist with the rapid evaluation of potential

projects to shorten the project development cycle
  • Evaluate potential of projects to deliver outcomes within the international standards and

methodologies followed within the Natural Climate Solutions Project Portfolio
Work with local NGOs, community groups, government officials, to identify potential and
strategic projects

  • Serve as point-person for potential new Projects or Project Operators identified for Kalimantan
region to be by considered by the Conservation Outcomes Team
  • Foster relationships with potential partner organizations through formal and informal
communication channels
  • Support project onboarding such as pre-due diligence, project budgeting, due-diligence and
project design documents


4. Monitoring and Learning


  • Lead engagement with all existing and forthcoming project operators to ensure smooth project
implementation
  • Lead all monitoring process to ensure all project activities implemented by project operators
to achieve key performances indicators set in the project design.
  • Ensure robust and integrated data collection and information management system to prepare
high-quality data and report
  • Support in preparation of project quarter and annual report


5. Capacity Building

  • Identify the needs for capacity building for project operators/implementing partners for sound
project implementation
  • Support the development and planning of high-quality training and other capacity building
activities to enhance organizational capacity of the project operators.
  • Identify the gap in the community groups on social forestry business and coordinate relevant
technical assistance needed to achieve project key performance indicators on social forestry
business groups

Requirements:

  • Indonesian, fluent in English and Bahasa Indonesia
  • M.Sc or PhD in relevant field
  • Min 10 years work experience in forest conservation and restoration in Kalimantan
  • Experience with Social Forestry and Indonesian concessions in Kalimantan
  • SIM to drive car and motorbike
  • Excellent network to relevant sub-national government agencies, NGOs and private sector in
Kalimantan
  • Availability to travel nationally and field work
  • Strong analytical capability for the relevance and efficiency of project activities
  • Strong English report writing skills

Desired optionally:

  • Experience in evaluating and assessing new sub-grantees and suppliers (potential project
partners)
  • Experience in participatory rural appraisal, participative project design, project logical framework
  • Experience in Monitoring & Evaluation of sub-grantees and suppliers
  • Skills in budget management and tracking


WORK CONDITION

The position is home based in any of the Kalimantan Provincial capitals. The candidate must have the
flexibility to travel to the fields in Kalimantan areas and will be available for meeting in both nationally
(e.g. Jakarta, Bali, and project sites) and internationally as and when necessary.
