Job Summary

Verification that plant equipment is in compliance with project contract and specification requirements, conforms to design operational feasibility, and is set up and tested per the supplier's requirements, within the engineer's discipline capacity. Provides functional direction to technicians and craft on staff. As lead Discipline Engineer, provides functional direction and supervision to other discipline engineers, technicians, and craft support on staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical guidance, direction and training to new and experienced engineers
  • Strongly contributes to the introduction of new technology/innovations into the plant design.
  • Prepare and maintain relevant documents and power plant tuning work instructions.
  • Strongly contribute to technical harmonization efforts across businesses, implying power plant tuning community. He defines the harmonized plant tuning methods typical tuning plan and related load profiles basing on his strong theoretical and practical knowledge of both I&C methodology and power plant processes (boiler, water & steam cycle, steam turbine, generator, clean combustion systems like ESP, SCR and FGD, auxiliaries, rest of plant systems and other interfaced processes).

Key Responsibilities (Cont)

  • Check, reviews or validates project documentation (PFUP, POCC, functional test procedures, …) as per relevant work instruction and guidelines
  • Participate to design reviews, task force, industrial committees, and design boards as necessary
  • Contribute to solve field issues, conduct or lead root cause analysis as required and collect feedback from power station during commissioning and/or commercial operation (when possible)
  • He/she has the responsibility to adjust all close loop/open loop.
  • The power plant tuning engineer monitors the applicable standards and existing technology related to power plant control design and optimization.
  • The power plant tuning engineer defines the power plant control commissioning workflow in accordance with EPC directives and work instruction.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's of Engineering preferred
  • DCS tuning engineer with experience with Foxboro DCS and full integrated process tuning
  • 5+ years of relevant startup experience preferred
  • Experience in Supercritical Coal Fired Power Plant
  • Preferred Skills: . Project Instructions Manual, contract documents, and startup guidelines . Division Policies . Supervisory Skills . Communications Skills . Planning Skills . Multi-tasking Skills . Problem Solving Skills . Computer Skills . Knowledge of discipline technical principles related to power plants . Knowledge of tools, equipment, and instruments used in performance of job duties . Knowledge of internal engineering systems and tools

Minimum Qualifications

Physical Demands:
  • Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Stand, Kneel, Bend, Stoop, Move, and Walk long distances in and around confined, cluttered places, and uneven areas.
  • See and hear naturally or with correction.
  • Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with requirements of the job duties.
  • Requires using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls according to a set procedure.
  • Requires repetitive movement.
  • May require work above 5 feet in height.
  • Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds.
  • Work up to a 12 hour shift doing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremes and other outside conditions.

  • Requires working in cramped work spaces and getting into awkward positions.
  • Requires working in very hot (above 90 F degrees) or very cold (below 32F degrees) temperatures and exposure to inclement weather such as dust, wind, snow, rain, etc.
  • Requires working in extremely bright or low lighting conditions
  • Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable.
  • Work around hazardous equipment.
  • Typical office environment.
  • This position is considered a safety sensitive position.
