BBC World Service is an international multimedia broadcaster, part of BBC News, delivering a wide range of language and regional services and working increasingly with other parts of BBC News to serve global audiences. It uses multiple platforms to reach its weekly audience of 468 million globally, including TV, digital platforms, radio, digital satellite and cable channels.
BBC News Indonesia is part of the 16 services of the Asia Region and is spread across Jakarta and London. The multimedia service broadcasts on radio and TV and has a thriving online and social media presence. The service aims to make international news relevant to our Indonesian audience.
The successful candidate will be responsible for producing and publishing multimedia content to serve our BBC News Indonesia audiences.
Main ResponsibilitiesAs a Journalist in our Jakarta bureau, you will original material for all multimedia output (online, social media, radio and TV). This will include writing for BBC News Indonesia radio and TV programmes as well as our website and other social platforms (YouTube, Facebook) in an engaging format for the audience.
You will contribute and generate ideas for originating and commissioning stories and will work with other members of the wider team to identify and produce creative news and general interest content. You will also work on breaking and developing stories as they happen.
Are you the right candidate?The successful candidate will be fluent in Bahasa (written and spoken), with an excellent command of English and a demonstrable background in a relevant journalistic role. Knowledge of online, digital and radio journalism is important. An understanding of global and regional news in the target area is essential. You will have a flair for creative writing and will be able to bring new and interesting angles to stories for BBC News Indonesia.
