At Caterpillar’s Indonesia Batam, we manufacture Hydraulic Shovels products used in building the infrastructure and mining to move materials that makes a better world.
Caterpillar’s Manufacturing Engineer position works both independently and as part of a team to maintain and improve processes and systems used in product manufacturing.
Our Manufacturing Engineer team provide expertise in specific areas of the manufacturing process to ensure the most efficient and cost-effective manufacture of product. This is a staff position which is expected to function as a specialist with respect to a specific technical phase of the planning function and which generally falls within the major areas of releasing, assembly process, layout, work standards and manufacturing development. Work assignments may be specialized in nature but may also be broad based with coordination between other staff personnel to complete a larger project.
As the Torque Manufacturing Engineer, you will:
Have a varied amount of manufacturing experience, who may obtain assistance from a more experienced senior level person in torque assembly process.
Troubleshoots day-to-day process problems, initiates solutions, and follows-up to evaluate effectiveness of changes to ensure practical cleaning, salvage, assembly, storing, packing and moving of production material within the components group.
Designs or directs the acquisition, design, fabrication and repair of all necessary tooling and machines.
Monitors all exchange and in-house requirements, monitors salvage rates, analyses core receipts and schedules and procures all new parts necessary to meet schedules to assists with the more complex issues related to determining capital requirements, developing systems or databases, or equipment and systems integration.
Determines, contacts and negotiates with external suppliers for machines, tooling, parts and contracted labor.
Analyses engineering change notices, determines any part or process change, initiates and implements all changes.
Establishes and maintain bill of materials and work orders to support cost management system.
Answers one-on-one end customer complainants or questions and make any required process changes.
Assumes day-to-day coaching duties to shop floor personnel.
Analyzes and recommends current and future systems, procedures, training and equipment needs based upon understanding and communication with users. Determines acceptability of new equipment based on usage requirements and recommends modification or revision as necessary.
Provides analysis and recommendations needed to allow manufacturing to produce the engineering product designs. Provides effective communication and services in solving production problems or pursuing operations improvements. Simulates present and future machine lines and cells to predict line flow problems and makes recommendations for implementation.
Conducts investigation to assist in resolving assembly issue and technical problems. Performs quality checks on equipment, process, etc. used in assembly operations.
Adheres to established standards, policies and practices relating to quality, cost reduction, safety, ergonomics, etc. in performing assigned duties.
The successful candidate must bring:
Fluent in English.
University degree in a Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering-related degree.
Minimum of 4 (four) years as a Torque Engineer or related role.
Prior experience working in a manufacturing environment with thorough knowledge of manufacturing concepts related to assembly and torque process.
In depth knowledge and experience in PFMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), Control Plan, IPV (In-Process Validation) and standard works.
Understanding hydraulic and electrical systems (schematics diagrams).
Proficient in computer assisted design (CAD) and 3D Drawing software, Creo is preferred.
Understand of torqueing process, torque tool specification and torque process improvement.
Good communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
Top candidates will also bring:
Having experience working in company with the similar products or torque process (automotive or machinery preferred).
Experience in improvement projects with Six Sigma or other methodology.
