About the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

The role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally. This involves strengthening Australia’s security, enhancing Australia’s prosperity, delivering an effective and high-quality overseas aid program and helping Australian travellers and Australians overseas. The department provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian Government. DFAT also works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination of Australia’s pursuit of global, regional and bilateral interests.

About the position

The Senior Regional Program Manager provides high level program management and support to policy development on health security, humanitarian and disaster management, and human and disability rights issues. Working with a highly motivated, close knit team based in the Australian Mission to ASEAN, DFAT Canberra and the Australian Embassy in Thailand, this position is responsible for effective and efficient management of priority investments across the Mission’s health, humanitarian and human/disability rights portfolios.

The role supports implementation of investments under Australia’s development policy Partnerships for Recovery and the ASEAN and Southeast Asia COVID-19 Development Response Plan. The Senior Regional Program Manager also supports Australia’s investment to the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on disaster management (AHA Centre). This includes investment management of Australian support to the AHA Centre’s work on human-induced crises and the humanitarian response in Myanmar.

The position provides key program functions including management of grant and contract responsibilities, partner and program performance management, risk and safeguards, and mainstreaming gender equality, disability and social inclusion in ASEAN-Australian investments.
