This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full-Time Communications & Public Involvement Specialist for our Boise, ID office or remote. Be involved in projects with our growing Communications & Public Involvement Practice and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced self-starter with the motivation and practice of simultaneously working on multiple dynamic projects. This requires self-accountability, including time management, excellent organization skills, maximizing of resources, and being results driven and proactive with challenging environments. Attention to detail, superior writing and communication skills, and the ability to work with strict timelines are key for this position. This position also includes working with a diverse group of people, including clients, agency partners, community groups, members of the public, and the internal project team.

Your Impact

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supports project communications teams in outreach and communications to members of the public, stakeholders, businesses, local community groups, and others.
  • Creates materials such as PowerPoints, flyers, and written and visual content for public outreach and events.
  • Supports project teams in all communications and outreach efforts. This may include, but not be limited to: attending and facilitating/hosting public meetings, creating and managing public meeting documentation and materials, coordinating with technical teams, and communicating with community stakeholders.
  • Supports and monitors the scheduling and production deadlines to meet internal and external client requests and deadlines for communications materials and distribution channels.
  • Responsible for writing, editing, and quality control of a variety of materials (presentations, fact sheets, infographics, summaries, etc.) designed to inform the public and stakeholders.
  • Supports managing the translation of content and materials into multiple languages as necessary.
  • Supports website and digital tools management, which may include social media.
  • Works with and manages communications and public involvement subconsultants when required.
  • Identifies and secures resources from the national WSP public involvement group as needed.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Affairs, Planning, Government Relations, or related field.
  • Three to Five (3-5) years of experience in communications and/or outreach with infrastructure, transportation, urban planning, or other complex projects.
  • Experience with diverse communities.
  • Superior command of the English language, with excellent written/oral communication and proofing skills.
  • Experience with writing for multiple audiences and presenting technical concepts in a clear and concise structure.
  • Experience with the development and implementation of public outreach and or communications plans.
  • Experience with scheduling and meeting internal/external deliverable deadlines with multiple groups and internal/external client contacts.
  • Familiarity with social media management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to -WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Affairs, or related field.
  • Experience overseeing subcontractors and accompanying supporting tasks, including task orders, scope development and management, as well as monitoring contract deliverables, deadlines and budgets.
  • Experience with engineering, environmental planning protocols, NEPA/CEQA/SEPA process, public meetings and working groups, and scheduling with transportation, infrastructure or other public projects.
  • Facilitation experience.
  • Website design.
  • Graphic design.
