Background: The World Food Programme (WFP) is the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. One of the key components of WFP’s work is to understand the food security situation of the population through cutting-edge vulnerability analysis and mapping (VAM). Mapping, remote sensing and geographic analysis has always been one of the corner stone of food security (VAM) analysis unit in WFP. Maps are a powerful means to advocate for the the poor and vulnerable and provide essential guidance for programme targeting.
Remote sensing data and analysis is pivotal for realising the effects of climate on food security, in and out of an emergency context. Understanding the wide range of available satellites, and setting up systems to readily analyse these datasets will boost the overall capacity for the region, where currently most of this type of analysis is being done at the headquarters level.
Main Responsibilities
The Earth Observation and Climate Analyst will be based in Jakarta. Under the overall guidance and direct supervision of the Head of VAM Indonesia, and technical supervision of the Senior Programme Advisor at the Regional Bureau of Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok on regional initiatives, the incumbent will undertake the following activities:

Minimum Academic Qualifications:
Education: Degree in Geographical Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, environmental management or a related subject or First University Degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses.
Language: Fluency in English and Bahasa Indonesia.
