Get to know the Role
As a category manager, you will be accountable for leading a category team that strategizes to deliver market share targets and build consumer loyalty. The successful candidate will achieve sales, inventory turns and gross profit targets in assigned merchandise departments. Additionally, they will source, price and market products to profitably grow the assigned department to the gross profit line and build supplier relationships and programs to build long-term health of their assigned categories.
The Day-to-Day Activities
P&L owner for your product subcategory where you are expected to drive sales and gross profit through the optimization of assortment and pricing
Develop and expand the product range by analyzing market trends to discover new growth opportunities
Continually evaluate suppliers and select the appropriate ones based on cost, terms, service level, and quality
Partner closely with cross-functional teams to determine competitive pricing and promotional activities of a product category
Assist in setting the initial sales, gross margin, and inventory forecasts used in developing the final operating budget
Coordinate with growth team to develop growth plans including advertising, in-store specials, promotional and special buys
Manage a team of buyers for your assigned category and ensure their performance are optimal and aligned to key targets such as sales, gross profit and availability and Grab’s culture and values
The Must-Haves
Minimum 5 years work experience as a merchandising or sourcing manager for a supermarket, hypermarket, online grocer, or distributor
Strong ability to use and analyse data to inform decisions
Experienced with online digital sales channels preferred
Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to effectively network within the industry and the overall Grab business
Strong leadership skills and have the ability to foster strong working dynamics and culture within your team according to Grab’s culture and values
An ambitious, self-driven and highly motivated individual who can work well in a startup environment
