Introduction
The Chief Engineer – Engineering Operations Head is a senior leadership position responsible for overseeing all engineering and maintenance activities across an international hotel portfolio in Indonesia. Reporting directly to the General Manager, the incumbent ensures that the property’s mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire‑life safety systems operate at peak efficiency while delivering an exceptional guest experience. This role blends technical expertise with strong people management, strategic planning, and a commitment to sustainability and safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Lead the engineering department, supervising a team of technicians, electricians, plumbers, and specialists to deliver daily maintenance and emergency response services.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs that reduce downtime, extend equipment life, and comply with local regulations and international hotel brand standards.
- Coordinate capital projects, including renovation, retrofit, and new construction initiatives, ensuring they are completed on schedule, within budget, and to the required quality specifications.
- Manage energy consumption and sustainability initiatives, such as LED retrofits, solar integration, and water‑saving technologies, to achieve cost‑efficiency and corporate ESG goals.
- Oversee the procurement of spare parts, tools, and third‑party services, negotiating contracts that balance cost‑effectiveness with reliability.
- Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and compliance checks to maintain certifications (e.g., ISO 45001, local fire safety standards).
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
- Collaborate closely with Front Office, Housekeeping, and Food & Beverage departments to prioritize guest‑related issues and minimize service disruptions.
- Prepare detailed reports on system performance, budget utilization, and project status for senior management review.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of emerging technologies, industry best practices, and regulatory changes that impact hotel engineering operations.
Requirements
- Minimum D3/D4 (associate or bachelor’s) degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- At least 2–3 years of proven experience in a similar senior engineering role within an international hotel or hospitality environment in Indonesia.
- Fluent in English—excellent reading, writing, and oral communication skills are essential for interacting with multinational teams and vendors.
- Strong leadership qualities with the ability to motivate, coach, and develop a diverse technical team.
- Demonstrated professionalism, high interpersonal skills, and a customer‑focused attitude.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced, 24‑hour operation.
- Proficiency with building management systems (BMS), computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), and standard engineering software.
- Flexibility to work Monday through Saturday, 08:00‑17:00, with on‑call availability for emergencies.
