Introduction
We are seeking a motivated and versatile Barista & Cook Helper to join our bustling café‑kitchen team. This dual‑role position is ideal for individuals who thrive in fast‑paced food and beverage environments, enjoy crafting classic kopitiam drinks, and are eager to support kitchen operations. As a key member of our front‑of‑house and back‑of‑house staff, you will help deliver a memorable experience to every customer while maintaining the highest standards of hygiene and service.
Responsibilities
- Barista Duties
- Prepare and serve a variety of coffee and tea beverages typical of a kopitiam setting, such as Kopi O, Teh Tarik, and specialty espresso drinks.
- Operate manual and semi‑automatic espresso machines, grinders, and other coffee equipment safely and efficiently.
- Maintain consistent taste and quality by following standardized recipes and adjusting grind size, tamp pressure, and brew time as needed.
- Monitor inventory of coffee beans, syrups, milk, and tea leaves, and alert the supervisor when re‑stocking is required.
- Engage with customers in a friendly, courteous manner, answering questions about menu items and offering recommendations.
- Keep the service counter clean, organized, and compliant with health‑safety regulations.
- Cook Helper Duties
- Assist chefs with basic food preparation: washing, peeling, chopping, seasoning, and portioning ingredients.
- Operate kitchen equipment such as gas stoves, fryers, steamers, rice cookers, and basic ovens.
- Support plating and presentation of dishes to ensure a visually appealing final product.
- Apply FIFO (First‑In‑First‑Out) inventory principles to guarantee proper food rotation and minimize waste.
- Uphold strict sanitation standards, including regular cleaning of workstations, utensils, and storage areas.
- Collaborate closely with the kitchen team to ensure timely order fulfillment during peak periods.
- Adhere to the shift schedule (08:00 – 17:00, Monday through Sunday) and be flexible to work weekends and public holidays as required.
Requirements
- Minimum education: SMA/SMK or equivalent.
- Age: 25 years or younger.
- Gender: Male.
- At least 1 year of experience in the Food & Beverage (F&B) sector, preferably in a coffee shop, café, or kopitiam.
- Demonstrated ability to craft kopi and teh drinks and operate simple coffee machines.
- Basic culinary knowledge: ingredient prep, cutting techniques, seasoning, and simple plating.
- Proficiency with kitchen appliances such as fryers, steamers, and rice cookers.
- Strong communication skills, a friendly demeanor, and the ability to work well in a team.
- Personal attributes: honesty, responsibility, high work ethic, neat appearance, and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
- Commitment to maintaining cleanliness, sanitation, and proper food storage practices.
